In our classroom this year we will once again have a full time intervention specialist working with us. Her name is Miss Eley. She is a wonderful positive addition to our room. We will also have additional help from Mrs. Bunger. She is always smiling and happy to help us all.
We will begin third grade math with number sense review, addition, and subtraction. Multiplication, division, data with graphs, and geometry will follow in the second part of the year. We will use whole group, small group, individual instruction, and the Canvas Learning Management System on the iPad throughout each day.
Daily math fact practice at home would be very helpful for all students. You may choose to practice using the Xtra Math app, purchased flash cards, or even reciting facts orally. I suggest you begin the year working on subtraction facts. After winter break please focus on multiplication facts.
Reading practice is also very important at all grade levels. It not only improves language arts scores, but also makes math problem solving and following directions much easier. Our Language Arts teachers usually recommend 20 minutes a day.
