“Do you have what it takes to be an A.C.E.?”
Each year, the same question is posed to the student body of Greenville Junior High on the first day of school. “Do you have what it takes to be an A.C.E.?”
On June 1, 2015 the Junior High will recognize those students who have maintained a great Attitude, made good Choices, and exhibited tremendous Effort during the 2014-2015 school year! This will be the ninth annual End of Year A.C.E. celebration.
The A.C.E. program was started in the spring of 2006 under the direction of Student Leaders advisor, Mr. Paul Ericksen, and retired guidance counselor, Ms. Jody Flommersfeld. The mission of the program is to acknowledge the social achievements and outstanding contributions of the students through a process of reinforcement, recognition and reward. Each student begins the school year as an A.C.E. They are encouraged to make good choices and demonstrate socially responsible behavior in order to keep that status. Detentions and other discipline referrals lower the student’s status to King, Queen or Jack. But not all is lost – students can regain their A.C.E. status through improvements in G.P.A., BUG (Being Unusually Good) awards or Maid Rite Sportsmanship awards.
Each quarter students who have remained an A.C.E. receive a special reward. During the first quarter A.C.E. students earned a movie reward. Students were shown Million Dollar Arm. Those who made it through the first two quarters were treated to a special celebration in front of the entire student body. Students’ names were announced by Mr. Fiely as they were handed a customized A.C.E. t-shirt and sent through a balloon arch amid music and the applause of the student leaders. For many students, it was their first recognition in front of their peers! At the end of the third quarter, A.C.E. students earned a pizza luncheon. On June 1, students who have maintained their A.C.E. status all year long will earn an end of the year picnic and dance party. Mr. Ericksen and Mr. Mortensen will grill hotdogs and D.J. West will provide the music.
