The Greenville City School’s Board of Education met during their regular meeting at the Greenville Senior High School in the Media Center on Thursday, June 12, 2014. They had a work session with Garmann Miller Architects & Engineers and were updated on both the renovation project at the high school and the design update of the new K-8 facility.

Superintendent, Douglas Fries brought forth the following District Highlights:

· The Class of 2014 Valedictorian, Sarah Herzog and Salutatorian, Cole Ward for their outstanding academic accomplishment.

· Aaron Balsbaugh and Harmony Kolling for qualifying for state competition in track.

· Amanda Davis, Teacher at Greenville Junior High School, for being named the 2014 Darke County Mentor of the Year. Thank you Amanda, for your commitment to our beginning teachers.

· Ally Russell as 1st Team All State in softball.

Superintendent, Douglas Fries commended the following groups and individuals on their outstanding representation of our School District:

· GHS Track Regional Qualifiers of Aaron Balsbaugh (District Champion-800 Meter Run); Jacob Butsch (Pole Vault); Aaron Balsbaugh, Calen Bruner, Jacob Butsch, Bailey Hartle (District Champion-4x800 Relay); Harmony Kolling (District Champion-Pole Vault); Paige Keller (Pole Vault); and Anne Bradfield (800 Meter Run).

Treasurer, Carla Surber presented the following items receiving the board of education approval:

· Approved the Treasurer’s report for the month of May 2014.

· Approved the Schedule of Bills for the month of May 2014.

· Approved bills for payment under the then and now certification.

· Approved appropriations for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014.

· Approved for the Treasurer to file with the Darke County Auditor, a temporary appropriation by fund on July 1, 2014, to begin fiscal year appropriations in the amount of 25% of the prior year appropriations for the general fund and the remaining balances in all of the grants, fund, etc., and the Board of Education of Greenville City School District provide for the current expenses and other expenditures of said Board during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015.

· Approved authorization of transfers and advances including Transfer $80,000.00 to Fund 599-NJROTC and transfer $45,000.00 to Fund 011-Child Care.

· Approved the Builders’ Risk Insurance coverage for the renovation project at Greenville Senior High School in the amount of $9,802.00 annually to be purchased from Southwest Ohio Purchasing Group.

· Approved a resolution approving Construction Manager At Risk Pre-Construction Agreement; and authorizing the Board President and Treasurer to sign that agreement.

· Approved Michele Zekas, Jane Cleary, Kathy Douds, Jo Ellen Zerkle, and Nanette Hottle to purchase calamity days by remitting member contributions on the salary that they have earned had they worked the extra days. Under Section ORC 3307.77, Greenville City School District is responsible to remit the corresponding employer contributions when members purchase calamity days.

· Approved to increase the petty cash fund at Greenville Senior High School to $200.00 to better accommodate student fees received at the high school.

· Approved the Greenville Public Library Budget for the period beginning January 1, 2015.

· Approved the disposal of fixed assets of a milk cooler located at East Intermediate School that is no longer in working order.

Superintendent, Douglas Fries presented Board of Education Policies: EDE and JFCG for second reading.

Superintendent, Douglas Fries presented the following donations with appreciation for approval:

· $184.38 from Pepsi Bottling Group for the benefit of East Intermediate School.

· $8.80 from General Mills Box Tops for Education for the benefit of East Intermediate School.

· $150.00 from Kiwanis Club of Greenville for the benefit of Greenville Senior High School’s Auto Technology program.

· $150.00 from Greenville Rotary Club for the benefit of Greenville Senior High School’s Auto Technology program.

· Desk Chair & 2 Bookcases (value of $65.00) from Nan Hottle for the benefit of South Middle School.

· The following donations for the benefit of Greenville Junior High School’s End-Of-The-Year Attendance Reward program: Heather Heiser-Greenville Apparel (value $12.00); Wendy’s-10-Frosty Coupons (value $9.90); Sonic-100 Slush Coupons (value $179.00); Cheryl Karn-McDonalds Coupons (value $30.00); David Smith-Hot Head Burrito Coupons (value $100.00); Judi York-Horse Lesson (value $90.00); Brian McKibben -4-Dragon’s Game Tickets (value $44.00); Matt Holzapfel-Game Stop Gift Card (value $60.00); and Kissell Bros.-8-Single Day Ride Passes (value $120.00).

· $100.00 from Twin Township for the benefit of Greenville Senior High School’s NJROTC program.

· $1,600.00 from Hittle Buick-GMC, Inc. for the benefit of Greenville Senior High School’s Auto Technology program for a student toolbox.

· 2000 Jeep Wrangler (value of $1,000.00) from Mr. & Mrs. Steven Litchfield for the benefit of Greenville Senior High School’s Auto Technology program.

Superintendent, Douglas Fries presented the following requests receiving Board of Education approval:

· Resolution was approved protecting Ohio’s School Children by Preserving the “Thorough and Efficient” Clause of the Ohio Constitution.

· A contract with Metropolitan Dayton Educational Cooperative Association (MDECA) for the following services, effective July 1, 2014-June 30, 2015: Fiscal Services-$12,447.00; Student Services-$28,351.50; EMIS Services-$6,915.00; INFOhio-$ 6,915.00; Total Annual Amount-$54,628.50 (Quarterly Billing Amount: $13,657.11).

· An affiliation agreement with Tri-Rivers Educational Computer Association (TRECA) to provide support for the CIS program at Greenville Senior High School at a cost of $700.00 for the 2014-2015 school year.

· Westech Environmental Solutions (as a pass-through Garmann Miller Architects & Engineers) for an intrusive investigation for asbestos-containing materials at Greenville Senior High School in the amount of $1,645.00.

· Westech Environmental Solutions (as a pass-through billing with Garmann Miller Architects & Engineers) to provide professional services associated with the pre-renovation abatement of asbestos-containing materials at Greenville Senior High School as described in contract.

· A renewal membership in the Southwestern Ohio Instruction Technology Association (SOITA) for the 2014-2015 school year at a cost of $2,242.65.

· Works International, Inc. for the Public School Works program for the 2014-2015 school year in the amount of $6,656.00.

· Camfel Productions for an assembly in September for East Intermediate and South Middle School students in the amount of $936.80 to be paid for each building’s principal account.

· Approved for the Director of Administrative Service to advertise for bids for computers.

· Approved the Educational Interpreter job description.

· Regina Harris was approved as a Board approved volunteer to assist with summer school at Greenville Virtual Academy.

· Fee schedules were approved for all buildings and for the clubs at GHS for the 2014-2015 school year.

· Accepted the Superintendent’s Report of all verified acts of harassment, intimidation, or bullying, as defined by Board Policy JFCF, for the second semester of the 2013-2014 school year.

Superintendent, Douglas Fries presented the following personnel items receiving the Board of Education approval:

· The resignation for retirement purposes of Nancy Person, Teacher at South Middle School be accepted effective at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Thank you, Nancy for your years of service to the District.

· The resignation for retirement purposes of Rebecca Shumaker, Secretary, at East Intermediate School be accepted effective October 1, 2014. Thank you, Beckie for your years of service to the District.

· The resignation of Rebecca Neal, Intervention Specialist, at Greenville Senior High School be accepted effective June 2, 2014.

· The resignation of William Plessinger, Varsity Girls Basketball Coach for the 2014-2015 school year be accepted effective May 29, 2014.

  • The resignation of Dawson DeShane, Bus Driver, be accepted effective May 30, 2014.

· The resignation of Lisa McElroy, Para Professional at Woodland Primary School be effective at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.

· The resignation for retirement purposes of Bobby Ford, custodian at Greenville Junior High School be accepted effective June 30, 2014. Thank you, Bobby for your years of service to the District.

· The resignation of David Peltz, Curriculum (9-12) and Career Technology Director be accepted effective July 29, 2014. Thank you, Mr. Peltz for your years of administrative service to the District.

· The adoption of fringe benefit pickup for administrative staff was approved effective July 1, 2014.

· Approved the personal leave conversion for non-union staff and administrative staff for the 2013-2014 school year.

· Employed Kari Lemon-Music Teacher at East; Karri Stickley-Career Technical, Ag Business Teacher at GHS; Janell Tebbe-Language Arts/Social Studies Teacher at South; Lisa McElroy-Education Interpreter at Woodland; Julie Brewer, Art Teacher at South and David Heffelfinger, Kindergarten teacher at Woodland.

· Employed the following substitutes for the 2014-2015 school year: Certified- James Holland; Classified-Zane Mise, Chrissy Wogoman , Clara Miller, Melinda Segura, Rebekah Azbill, Dana Holzapfel, Denise Cook, and Dianna Wilson.

· Additional part-time summer crew substitute employment was granted to Laura Price, Dylan Blinn and Meg Rehmert.

· Anita Greene was approved as a dishwasher for the 2014-2015 school year.

· Thad (Ty) Tryon was approved to provide delivery service for the food service department during the 2014-2015 school year.

· A per diem contract was approved based on Column II, Step 0, for Mark Lewis effective May 21, 2014, since he has served 60 consecutive days as a substitute teacher in the same position, contract automatically expires at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.

  • Susan Hohler, substitute teacher at the East Intermediate School wasapproved for her pay rate be increased to 1.4 times the regular substitute teacher rate effective May 9, 2014, since she has completed 20 consecutive days of substitute teaching in the same position.

· Tracy Tryon, Laura Swigart, and Chad Curtis was approved as summer school instructors for GHS’ Virtual Academy.

· Shawna Wise was employed at the Title I Family Coordinator for the 2014-2015 school year at 3.5 hours daily for 184 days at the rate of $17.52 per hour.

· Rachel Glass’ administrative contract was approved to be amended beginning with the 2014-2015 school year to increase the number of contract days to 220 and rate of pay to $69,500.00.

· Megan Berning, Amy Byers and Sarah Godfrey was approved for payment according the master agreement for writing IEP’s for students.

· Kathy McClimans was approved as a home instructor for additional student during the 2013-2014 school year.

· Michael Koeing is being granted a continuing contract beginning with the 2014-2015 school year.

· Salary increases will be effective with the 2014-2015 school year for certified staff meeting the requirements as stated in the master agreement: Zachary Roll, Brittany Edwards, Paul Ericksen and Karen Jauss.

· Extended service contracts for the 2014-2015 school year was approved for Jim Anderson, Lori Hoover, Rebecca Curtis, Wil Raby, Tiffany Fine, Karri Stickley, Margie Heitkamp, Kathy Jetter, Travis Nicholas, Amy Schoen, Toni Shellabarger, Beth Shellhaas, Krista Subler, Christopher Sykes, Reed Mikesell, and Richard Cline.

· Supplemental contracts were awarded to Emily Bowman-Asst. HS Volleyball; Janelle Gerlach-9th Grade Volleyball; Matt Holzapfel-8th Grade Football; Rachel Kerns-Varsity Girls Basketball; Laura Swigart-Asst. HS (JV) Girls Basketball; and Steve Bonfiglio-JV Boys Soccer.

· Brittany Edwards was approved for IAT duties at South school for the 2014-2015 school year.

· Resolution #014-119 was amended to David Smith for IAT duties at JH for the 2014-2015 school year.

· Tuitiion Reimbursement was approved for Paul Ericksen, Karla Holzapfel, Jenny King, Elizabeth Langston, Gina Rollins, John Shutts, Julie Stratman, and Cindy Timmerman.

· Resolution #014-121 was amended for professional development for Keith Denman to the dates of June 14-21, 2014.

· Resolution #014-089 was amended for professional development for Amy Schoen to a total cost of $1,756.96.

· Professional Meeting attendance was approved for Elizabeth Arnold, Toni Shellabarger, and Travis Nicholas.

· Approved Jim Sommer for the OSBA Outstanding Board Member official nomination.

The meeting was adjourned after an executive session. The next regular board of education meeting will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the St. Clair Memorial Hall, Anna Bier Civic Room at 7:00 p.m.
