Greenville is So Lucky!

We are so lucky in Greenville. Students, families, businesses, and community members are so lucky. We are so lucky because Greenville City Schools has a Career Technical Education Center. Greenville CTEC (G-CTEC) is a unique opportunity for our students to learn relevant and rigorous technical skills that can be immediately applied in jobs that benefit students, the Greenville community, and our area’s economy.

According to the Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE), half of all STEM jobs call for workers with less than a bachelor's degree, and, of the 55 million job openings created by 2020, 30 percent will require some college or a two-year associate degree. Additionally, more than 80 percent of manufacturers report that talent shortages will impact their ability to meet customer demand. High school students involved in CTE are more engaged, graduate at higher rates and typically go on to postsecondary education. Postsecondary CTE prepares students and adults for in demand careers, and allows them to take on less debt. For these reasons, Greenville is so lucky to have the G-CTEC!

Recently, Greenville received even more good news. This month, the Career Tech Report Cards were released from the Ohio Department of Education. The Career Tech Report Card contains different measurements than our District Report Card, and it is still new to the district level reports from Ohio Department of Education. The Career Tech Report Card measures four major components. Those four components are Achievement, Graduation Rate, Prepared for Success, and Post Program Outcomes.

The Achievement component is not yet fully developed but will soon be a combination of the technical skill assessments given as a part of Career Technical Programs and achievement indicators on the district report card.

The Graduation Rate looks at the percentage of students involved in Career Technical Programing who graduate on time. G-CTEC boasts a 99.1% graduation rate!

Prepared for Success measures the number of students who engage in opportunities such as the ACT test, industry recognized credentials, and honors diploma, as well as college credit plus, or AP courses. While G-CTEC has about 35% of students successfully participating in Prepared for Success Measures, there are many exciting new industry credentials that G-CTEC students can work toward and all Ohio juniors now participate in the ACT with no cost, so we expect to see this percentage increase.

Post Program Outcomes is a measure of students who are employed, engaged in an apprenticeship, serving in the military or participating in post-secondary education. 93.9% of students in the G-CTEC report being engaged in a meaningful Post Program Outcome within a year of graduation.

Greenville is so lucky to have the G-CTEC. Thanks to the hard work of students, staff and teachers at G-CTEC our community benefits from college and career ready young adults equipped with industry recognized credentials, technical skills, and employability skills. Greenville is lucky to have G-CTEC and G-CTEC is lucky to have the support of Greenville.
