The Greenville Junior High School Concert Band, under
the direction of Mr. Brian McKibben, was invited to visit, rehearse, and
perform at the University of Dayton’s Department of Music on Thursday, March
10, 2016.
The students of the
concert band worked with Dr. Patrick Reynolds, who conducts the Symphonic Wind
Ensemble. During their three hour
visit the band worked on several selections that are being prepared for OMEA
District 11 Band Contest that is held May 7th in Troy, OH.
One of the highlights of the JH band’s visit, was the
side by side experience they had with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. The Wind Ensemble performed two selections
for our JH band in which our students were able to see the Wind Ensemble’s
music and see firsthand how college level musicians play. Greenville is very fortunate to have
students in our Junior High Concert Band that not only are good musicians but
are able to handle themselves socially in out of school environments. The Concert Band and Mr. McKibben received
many compliments from Dr. Reynolds on how well they rehearsed and
performed. The members of UD’s band
were also very complimentary of the JH Band.
The Junior High Concert Band is comprised of 7th and 8th
grade students. (Dr. Reynolds rehearses
